(Mark Swartz, Copyright Specialist, Queen’s University; Chabriol Colebatch, Copyright Co-ordinator/Legal Advisor, Brock University; Ann Ludbrook, Copyright Coordinator, Ryerson University; Joy Muller, Manager, Teaching, Learning and Copyright, Seneca College Libraries)

How to reach a broad audience and launch a successful campus wide copyright educational strategy is a challenge that faces many recently appointed copyright specialists. In this session you will find out how three different universities are implementing copyright outreach and education. What are the best ways they have found to get the message across? What are the strategies that work best with faculty and students? What are some innovative ways that you can implement copyright outreach beyond formal sessions?  How are we planning our C-11 update for the fall? Also discussed will be how to answer some of the difficult questions that can arise during copyright instruction.  Come with your questions and issues, there will be an ample question and answer period to discuss your concerns.

Playing with a New Problem: Copyright and video games in education and scholarship

(Kevin Schut, Associate Professor (Media & Communications), Trinity Western University)

Discussions about copyright and education often focus on print resources, but of course, many academics use other media in the classroom and in their research.  Video games have started to gain a lot of scholarly attention recently, and are starting to become the focus of courses and academic journals.  But what kind of implications does this new medium have for copyright administrators, faculty and librarians?  Since this is such a new topic, this workshop will not provide a set of definitive answers, but rather, discuss a number of academic, legal and administrative issues in an open forum.
